After starting in the capital city, we drive east to our base for most of the trip, Fayetteville. It’s an outdoorsy town most known as the gateway to the newly outlined New River Gorge National Park. But it’s also near several great towns for antiquing and, of course, drinking.
Where to Shop

D+K Collectibles– This small shop in Fayetteville specializes in West Virginia-made products, including Blenko glassware. They know just about everything so ask away!
New River Antique Mall– The Fayetteville antique mall has plentiful aisles with a little bit of everything including West Virginia glass, midcentury home decor, and quirky gifts.
Very Rare Vintage– This story has funky retro clothing, including jeans, t-shirts, and accessories from the 90s.
Tamarack Marketplace– Located in Beckley, this sprawling arts center highlights the creative bounty of the state with a cafe, live glassblowing, and sprawling areas of locally made items.
Hickory Tree Antique Mall– You’ll find jewelry, home decor, and plenty more at this Beckley antique mall.
Where to Eat


Cathedral Cafe– The former church is now Fayetteville’s most charming cafe, with freshly made sandwiches and pastries with coffee. Dine inside or get your lunch to take with you on a hike.
Southside Junction Tap House– This casual bar has weekly events like trivia plus a great selection of craft beer and eleveated pub fare. It’s in the heart of downtown Fayetteville.
Secret Sandwich Society– This Fayetteville favorite serves heaping sandwiches with tasty fries and craft cocktails.
Skyline Drive In- Located in Oak Hill, this is said to be the last place that Hank Williams ate before his death. It’s basically a dive bar with mementoes related to the singer with West Virginia-style hot dogs and cheap beer.
Black Circle Bistro– The Beckley restaurant is known for its burgers and arcade games.
Where to Drink

Freefolk Brewery– This brewery on the outskirts of Fayetteville is popular with the most-rafting crowd with plentiful outdoor seating and a wide selection of brews.
Range Finder Coffee– The small downtown Fayetteville coffee shop is the best place to start the day, either grabbing a quick coffee and pastry or hunkering down with your laptop.
Whitestone Beer Garden- The outdoors store has its own beer garden in the back, where you can pick up a can of local beer to enjoy on the patio.
What to See Nearby

New River Gorge National Park– Spanning over 70,000 acres this park hugs one of the continent’s oldest rivers. Hiking, rafting, and climbing opportunities abound at this not to be missed destination.
Thurmond- Managed by the national park, the abandoned town as home to five residents as of 2020. The buildings from the coal and railroad heyday have been preserved.
Love Hope Center for the Arts– Catch the rotating exhibitions from regional artists and events at this gallery in Fayetteville.
